There are plenty of ‘highs’ when you visit the village of Ravenshoe, located on the Atherton Tablelands in far north Queensland.

This historic timber town is the highest in Queensland at 920m above sea level and boasts the highest hotel in Banana-Bender State as well as the highest road.

Ravenshoe is located 1,676 km north from Brisbane, 121 km south-west of Cairns via Gordonvale and Malanda and is 920 m above sea-level.

Tumoulin Road is 1,163m above sea level at its highest point and is the alternate route from Ravenshoe to the Kennedy Hwy. It is 20.3 km long, travelling through the Ravenshoe State Forest and the Tumoulin State Forest.

Often busy with trucking traffic many from Cairns of which supply the town with a population of 1,400, Ravenshoe is 1,676km north from Brisbane and 121 km south-west of Cairns via Gordonvale and Malanda.

I visited Ravenshoe recently sand snapping numerous pics of the area.

Another attraction is the Windy Hill Wind Farm, located 6km from Ravenshoe on the Kennedy Highway. Built in 1999 and operational by 2000 it has 20 turbines all with a height of 44 metres and blade dimension of 22 metres. Each turbine generates 12 megawatts - enough to power 3,500 homes.
