Secret Men’s Business 34: The Cornwill’s

Troy, Wayne and Rick Cornwill are a fixture at the Castlemaine Truck Show (and others), having supported the show for twenty eight years. A weekend away in Grandpa's 75 year old tent for the boys and their staff, they are always ready to hand a drink from the (supersized) esky or a chop from the BBQ to anyone who drops by for a yak.

The first truck show I ever went to was at Castlemaine in 2004. I guess this is one of the reasons why it holds a special place in my heart. I walked onto the grounds at Campbell’s Creek oval, just out of town, wondering if anyone would let me take their photo, much less interview them. I must admit I felt more than a little nervous as a newbie to the world of trucks and trucking people.

The first people I spoke to were the Cornwill Brothers from Geelong, as motley a crew as I’d ever seen. I nervously introduced myself and was immediately greeted with a smile, a snag from their BBQ and a drink of my choice – I chose a can of Scotch and coke. There started an enduring friendship.

Fast forward to today and the Cornwill boys are always my first port of call. Their trucks are a yardstick for the best the industry has to offer.
