An Icon Returns! Truckin’Life Magazine Resurrected!

In 1976 Malcolm Johnson launched Truckin’Life magazine. Not only did he enjoy great success with the publication, it went on to become an icon of Australian trucking.

At its peak it enjoyed a monthly circulation of 42,000 – an achievement unmatched by any trucking journal to this day. Truckin’Life was eventually sold to Federal Publishing Company, which is when I first joined the publication and spent five years in the company of esteemed Editor, Jim Gibson.

FPC was primarily a printing business and decided to get out of publishing, selling its group of successful magazines on to the News Limited conglomerate where it become a very small fish in a very large pond.

Lacking the attention it deserved, Truckin’Life eventually folded.

Now, in 2023 podcaster, Mike Williams, together with Craig Forsyth and ‘Yogi’ Kendall of Outback Truckers have taken the plunge and relaunched the best known and most loved title in Australian trucking history.

Starting as a quarterly, the boys hope to get Truckin’Life back to being a monthly publication. Available initially via subscription only, I urge you to back the guys and get on board. To be an independent publisher in these days of media concentration is no mean feat.

I – as I’m sure all truck lovers do – wish them well.
