Taming the outback

Cameron Russell is a young tacker in truckie terms. At just 22 he is traversing the roads of West Australia behind the wheel of a Road Train, working for Triple H Haulage.

At just 16 Cam worked on cattle station near Daly Waters in the NT, droving cattle around the property. It was here that he learned to drive.

At 17, driving a medium rigid with a tri axle trailer, he ran Brisbane to Sydney to Melbourne carting caravans, small machinery, cars and the like. At 18 he moved on to driving tow trucks around Brisbane, doing smash and breakdowns.

The ‘call of the wild’ beckoned again and at 19 he moved to West Australia, doing harvest season at Lake Grace. Cam then worked at a Lithium mine, before getting his HR licence and driving an 8 wheel tipper, delivering sand – mostly around Bridgetown.

At 20 he gained his MC licence and got behind the wheel of a T604 Kenworth, pulling end tippers, carting grain, gypsum and sand, as well as pulling road train water tankers.

From the Kenny he jumped into a Volvo FH16, again pulling end tippers with grain and fertiliser around WA.

Now Cam has jumped on board with his current boss, Triple H Haulage and drives a Kenworth T404 – although for the past month and a half he’s been behind the wheel of a Western Star 6900FX.

His work consists of carting oversize huts to the north of WA, as well as general freight, which takes him to Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne on a regular basis.

Before joining Triple H Haulage, Cam had never done oversize or general freight. Here is a young bloke who’s not afraid of hard work and who doesn’t mind travelling the length and breadth of Australia to do it. It’s young folk like Cam on whose shoulders the future of trucking rests.

Welcome to Truckin with Kermie, Cam. Good to have you on board.

Here’s a few pics Cam provided of his various drives. Enjoy….
