Fully-electric eEconic Truck from Mercedes-Benz Debuts at Brisbane Truck Show

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has confirmed the zero emission all-electric eEconic will join the eActros at the Brisbane Truck Show that starts on May 18.

The Econic, which is best known for waste collection was designed from the ground-up to work in densely-populated areas and is known for its excellent visibility, practicality and active safety features.

Now, the electric eEconic version will also be known for its near-silent powertrain and zero local emissions.

The eEconic that will feature on the Daimler Truck Stand at the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention Centre will also be part of a validation trial that will take place in Australia and New Zealand after the show.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks Australia Pacific Director, Andrew Assimo, is looking forward to presenting the eEconic in Brisbane.

“We can’t wait to present the eEconic, a clean, quiet and safe electric truck that is perfectly suited to operating in high density areas,” he says.

“There is a lot of anticipation about our fully-electric eEconic and eActros and we are excited to be able to have them on our stand in Brisbane before they get to work as part of our validation trial,” Mr Assimo adds.

Production of the ground-breaking eEconic began last year at the Mercedes-Benz Trucks factory in Worth, Germany.

The eEconic uses much the same electric drivetrain as the eActros. It has been designed to cover the vast majority of typical waste collection routes operated by an Econic in a single shift without intermediary charging.

The electric drivetrain enables a level cab floor to be used, allowing easy movement through the cab. This is particularly advantageous when the driver wishes to leave the vehicle through the folding door on the co-driver's side, well out of the way of traffic.

Daimler Truck has extensive experience with electric commercial vehicles and was the first manufacturer with an all-electric truck when the Fuso eCanter broke new ground when it was launched in Australia in 2021.

The introduction of eEconic production represents another milestone on Daimler Truck's path to CO2-neutral transport. In order to contribute to the decarbonisation of the commercial vehicle industry, the company is pursuing the goal of putting CO2-neutral transport on the roads by 2050.

The group therefore aims to sell only CO2-neutral vehicles in its biggest sales regions of North America, Europe and Japan from 2039 forward.

The Brisbane Truck Show will be held from May 18 to 21 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
